Kelly Slater added to Florida Governor's Council for Physical Fitness

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, - - Florida Governor Charlie Crist announced the addition of 8 Time World Championship Tour surfing legend, Kelly Slater, to the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness late yesterday. The son of a bait shop owner and a native Floridian, Kelly Slater is often referred to as the world's greatest surfer for winning more championships than any other person in the history of the sport.

Kelly remarked shortly after the announcement, "I'm looking forward to helping promote the goals of the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness and integrating the mission of the World Skin Cancer Foundation into the Council's work." Kelly helped form the World Skin Cancer Foundation to assist in educating the public on the importance of making sun protection a health priority.

This weekend the World Skin Cancer Foundation will hold its family oriented, "Fall Classic", a charity fundraiser including the 'Sean Slater Surf Invitational', the 'Grind for Life' skateboard exhibition, and a silent auction with incredible memorabilia. The Holiday Inn - Cocoa Beach is hosting the festivities. Kelly noted, "The Governor's announcement makes coming home to family, friends and a community that's been so supportive of me that much more special."

On Nov. 13th, the Fall Classic will culminate with Governor Crist visiting Kelly's former elementary school for a tour of the fitness facilities and a bill signing ceremony. Coordinated by the Surfrider Foundation, Governor Crist will sign Senate Bill 1472 and present it to Kelly. The bill enhances protection of beach access from coastal development.

In appreciation of Governor Crist's outstanding efforts to protect Florida's environment and public access to it, Kelly will present 'The People's Governor' with a custom, environmentally friendly, "Biofoam" surfboard, made of 50% soybeans.
